What the student did

Independent digital art and animation projects can count toward high school credit. For this assignment, a high school student built a looping animation to practice fundamental principles of motion.

The student used an iPad to draw at least twelve frames of a ball dropping, hitting the ground, and rebounding into the air. Using digital onion skinning tools, the student adjusted the spacing between frames to create clear squash and stretch shapes on impact.

After finalizing the timing across all frames, the student exported the completed sequence as a digital video loop.

What the teacher checked

The criteria belong to the task. An Optio teacher marked each one from the evidence.

  • Met

You drew at least 12 frames showing a full bouncing loop

  • Met

You included clear squash and stretch frames when the ball hits the ground

  • Met

You exported your loop as a short video or GIF

What it counted for

This assignment earned 100 XP toward a Fine Arts credit and contributed to Digital Literacy as well. It was one assignment among many on the path to a full high school credit. A licensed teacher reviewed the exported video file against the task criteria to confirm proper frame spacing and deformation technique before awarding credit.

Optio students earn XP for finished work instead of letter grades. An Optio teacher reviews the evidence against the task's criteria and awards the XP. 2,000 XP is one high school credit on an Optio Academy transcript.

Questions about Optio

Can digital animation and personal art projects count for high school credit?

Yes. Students can pursue independent animation, digital illustration, or traditional art and submit their original files for evaluation. When the work demonstrates core artistic techniques and technical execution, it counts toward subjects like Fine Arts and Digital Literacy.

How does a student project become an assignment and get reviewed?

A student sets up a project with clear milestones and defined criteria for completion before producing the work. Once the student uploads their work, a licensed teacher evaluates the evidence against those criteria and awards credit.

What does XP mean on an official school transcript?

Optio measures demonstrated student work in XP rather than letter grades or seat time. Earning 2,000 XP in a subject area equals one full high school course credit on a standard accredited transcript.
